Jimmie L. Williams has been lead trial counsel in over 20 jury trials, and has over 30+ years of experience in the representation of business entities in complex commercial litigation, employment and product liability cases, and health care providers in professional liability and transactional lawsuits. Formerly a trial attorney with the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission, where he was honored with the Chairman’s Award for outstanding legal skills, and a partner with the law firm of Burnham Brown, Mr. Williams presently serves as General Counsel to several multi-national companies, one of whom is involved in a multi-billion-dollar international contract dispute, oversees and negotiates his clients international intellectual property licenses and contracts, and provides advice and counsel for his clients businesses worldwide.
He has also served as general counsel to a variety of other clients, including healthcare and long-term care entities, managed care service providers, emerging technology companies, foreign and domestic financial services operations, non-profit foundations, a beverage company and franchise businesses. Examples of Jimmie’s commercial litigation, employment and trial experience include breach of contract claims; wrongful termination, harassment and discrimination claims; unfair business claims; advice and counsel work has included vendor agreements, hardware and software agreements, product development agreements, privacy, patent and trademark license agreements, stock subscription, PPMs and asset purchase agreements; buy and sell agreements; sale of technology and intellectual property rights.
In providing advice and counsel, Mr. Williams has advised corporations and other entities, directors, financial professionals, investors and other clients on corporate, corporate governance and transactional matters. He has drafted employment manuals, discrimination policies and employment agreements, counseled employers on pre-employment screening, restrictive covenants and workplace violence, and conducted in-house training programs. He also advised clients on entity formation, company purchases, mergers and acquisitions, change in control transactions, and dissolutions.
He is a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley with a degree in mechanical engineering and received his JD from Whittier College School of Law. In addition to California, he is admitted to practice before the District Courts of California, the Second Circuit for the United States Court of Appeals and in the District of Columbia. He is also a Director for the Africa-USA International Chamber of Commerce and Industry and served as President of the California Society for Healthcare Risk Management (“CSHRM”), 2010 and as a Director of CSHRM, 2007 – 2009. Mr. Williams is a member of DRI, the National Bar Association and the Alameda County Bar Association.
